One theme of the book began as fear, their fear of coming to the country and not having anything. The way they showed they highly disliked the country and wanted nothing to do with it really wasn't all because they didn't like it but the fear they had of not having anyone besides their family here, not knowing many, and the way they haven't ever been here for much. They were coming to live here after the Revolution.
Think about your way of life here in the United States, maybe even NY since that's where they came.. if you lived somewhere else, loved where you were and for a change going to live somewhere totally different without knowing anyone. What would you possibly do? Also grow fear inside of you? Keep your thoughts bottled up? Talk about it.

This was a very good analagy about fear that you made. I think that I would feel a lot of fear if I went to a foregn country, infact, I felt like that when I went to Italy because I didn't speak the language.

I couldn't imagine living in a new country where they speak a different language and have a different culture altogether with. When I was eight, I visited my stepmother's family in Brazil. It was scary because I never knew what they were saying and I didn't know what we were ever going to do because I was so confused and didn't understand Portuguese. I couldn't imagine living there when I couldn't even be there for three weeks.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have fear, but I would feel more nnsecure about myself because I'm new to this country and they work things differently than how I used to in my country. But I would learn how to adapt after a while.
ReplyDeleteI came to this country when I was around 6 from France, but since I was so young I don't remember a lot of things, I just know that I was put into an ESL class with other foreign students, so we were all kind of helping each other become more "american".
