In this picture, I drew the typical home they would have lived in in each location. I drew a large house to show how they lived in the Dominican Republic and an apartment building for NYC since they lived in an apartment. How do you think their locations affected them as people in the book?

I think that their location in the Dominican Republic affected them because they were used to being waited on by maids and family members that they were surrounded by. In NYC and throughout their lives in America, the girls became more independent which caused them to sometimes turn down the wrong paths.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you because as you can tell in many spanish countries their are different maids walking around your house doing most things fooyou, for example, cleaning, cooking, washing, etc. So they were used to everything being done for them, the laid back life style. As they came to NY their life totally flipped, they began to become more independent by having to do everything on their own.
ReplyDeleteI think their home in the Dominican Republic made the Garcia Girls a lot more irresponsible, since they had servants and maids do whatever they wanted. But, their home in NY made them a lot more responsible because they not only had to care for themselves, but they also had to care for each other in case something bad happened to them, like if they got arrested.

I think their locations affected them as people because in the DR they were also given things to them and they had maids. But in NY they had to do things by themselves and learn things from right and wrong.
